TheResident Evil 4remake’s official PlayStation Store listing has been updated to tease franchise fans that there may be story surprises in store. Capcom has a strong track record with itsResident Evilremake games, consistently delivering graphically-impressive games that modernize the classic survival-horror titles for the latest consoles. These remakes have been faithful for the most part, but they have also made some important story changes here and there.
The upcomingResident Evil 4remake will be the same, offering an experience that is true to the original while also tweaking the story. It’s been made clear by theResident Evil 4remake trailersreleased so far that the new game is going for a more serious, darker tone than the original game, but there may be surprises for fans beyond those subtle changes.

As pointed out by Reddit user Kicka14, the PlayStation Store has updated itsResident Evil 4remake page to include an interesting blurb hinting at surprising story developments. According to the new blurb, theResident Evil 4remake will feature a “reimagined storyline that may surprise even hardened fans of the original game.” Using the Wayback Machine, we were able to verify that thisResident Evil 4remake PlayStation Store description change happened at some point between January 9 and now.
Fans have already been made aware of someResident Evil 4remake story changes. For example, thedog that Leon can save in the originalResident Evil 4is dead in the remake. The first encounter Leon has with an infected villager at the beginning plays out differently as well. There will certainly be other changes, but it’s unclear how many of the differences will be revealed to fans ahead of the game’s release.
TheResident Evil 4remake release date is currently scheduled for late March, so fans only have to wait a couple more months to play the game for themselves. We know that theResident Evil 4remake is bringing back the islandand will have players exploring all the same areas as the original, but what happens in those locations and where the plot ultimately ends up could very well be different from what fans remember. Then again, it’s possible the story changes will be more subtle and won’t have as big of an impact as some fans may be hoping.
Between this tease and rumors thatWesker will have an expanded role in theResident Evil 4remake, it seems fans of Capcom’s survival-horror franchise have plenty reason to be excited to see what’s in store. Luckily, the wait to find out is nearly at an end.
