Although next to nothing is known about the upcomingAssassin’s Creedrelease, the one general consensus is that it is based on Vikings. Plenty ofAssassin’s Creedrumors and leakshave cropped up since the initial reveal of that, as is typically given Ubisoft’s trend of leaks before a proper summer reveal, but the latest is perhaps the most strange.

Before moving forward, it’s worth mentioning that there is little to no reason to believe that this rumor is legit. The leaker is a trash Reddit account with no history of leaks, and it is a serious departure from the little that is known aboutAssassin’s Creed2020. That said, stranger things have happened that a rogue leak having some credibility.

RELATED:Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok Has Been Teased for Much Longer Than You Think

The Redditor purports that the title, or more likely the code name, isAssassin’s Creed: Counter Culture. It is reportedly being worked on by Ubisoft Montreal, takes place during the Summer of Love in 1960s, and puts players in the role of Alice or Miles Lane, a husband and wife team turned Assassin. It’ll reportedly operate in a fashion similar to Jacob andEvie FryeinAssassin’s Creed Syndicate. There will also be a grappling hook and motorcycle as ways of traveling around the city (though there’s no hijacking and only the bike for this traversal element).

Sidearms will be heavily involved, and while the game itself is not to the scale ofAssassin’s Creed Odyssey, the Redditor describes it as a sort of return to form of theoriginalAssassin’s Creedformula. Not being seen and stealth gameplay will have more of a emphasis than past entries, with the story focusing on how Assassins started the movement of the 60s while facing new trials for the brotherhood.

Although this leak is almost certainly fake, it’s worth pointing out a few things. Namely, the Summer of Love is mentioned in a codex ofpossible locations for theACuniverse(though few of these have manifested in game). Ubisoft has also stated that it’s avoiding settings with a big emphasis on guns because of the way it would disrupt the formula, but at the same time, sidearms don’t really negate this if it were espionage style.

Furthermore, Ubisoft has multiple games in development at any one time, with some games releasing in the same year (see Assassin’s Creed Rogue and Assassin’s Creed Unity), and at no point does the leak put a date on this. As such, while it should be dosed in salt and treated as fake, there’s no major red flags that instantly dispel it as a possibility for a later release (or simultaneous release) after/alongsideAssassin’s Creed Ragnarok.
