While Game Freak is still busy supportingPokemon SwordandShieldwith things like the upcomingCrown Tundraexpansion, some fans are looking ahead to what’s next from the long-running franchise. No new main seriesPokemongames have been announced, but a new rumor making the rounds online suggests that the next games will be remasters.

This rumor stems from Twitter account Nintend’Alerts, which has accurately leaked Nintendo-related news in the past. In response to people complaining about theSuper Mario 3D All-Starscollection, they said that people are going to complain even more about “Pokemonthing” that’s coming. This seems to suggest thatPokemonremasters or a collection of some sort is in the works, though that’s just speculation at this time.

It’s hard to see whyPokemonfans would complain about the chance to play some of the older games on the Switch. Historically, olderPokemongames have maintained or increased in market value since their launch, and so acquiring them can be an especially expensive endeavor. Not only that, but many fans are clamoring for the chance to return to the Sinnoh region inPokemon DiamondandPearlremakes.

Maybe instead ofPokemon DiamondandPearlremakes, Nintendo just plans on porting the originalDiamondandPearlgames to the Switch. Such a move would likely upset somePokemonfans who have already thoroughly playedDiamondandPearlon theNintendo DSand are wanting the experience to be upgraded for the Switch. But again, that’s just speculation at this time. It’s difficult to decipher exactly what Nintend’Alerts means by the tweet, and so fans will just have to wait for Nintendo to share more information.

As previously stated, thePokemon SwordandShieldgames are awaiting theirCrown TundraDLC, which is currently without a release date. Whatever Nintendo has planned for the future of the main seriesPokemonfranchise, news on it likely won’t come until some time after theCrown TundraDLC launches. Considering this, fans may have to wait until 2021 to learn more about whatever the next games will be, whether they are properDiamondandPearlremakes or something completely different.

In the meantime, there are rumors that Game Freak may actually have a thirdSwordandShieldDLC expansion up its sleeve. Rumors indicate that the third expansion would have players returning to theKalos region fromPokemon XandY, but they have yet to be substantiated.
