Marvel’s Spider-Man 2might be connected to the Multiverse in some way, at least according to a blurb on the upcoming Miles Morales tie-in figure. The latest installment of Insomniac’s well-receivedSpider-Manseries is set to swing onto the PlayStation 5 later this year, withVenom voice actor Tony Toddhinting that it could release in September, though it should also be noted that he has since attempted to downplay this reveal.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2will pick up where 2018’sMarvel’s Spider-Manand 2020’sSpider-Man: Miles Moralesleft off, with Peter Parker and Miles Morales working together to protect the open-world landscape of New York City from various criminals and supervillains. This time, the threat comes from the monstrous Venom, whose presence was hinted at during the previous two games beforehis official debut inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2. Kraven the Hunter has also been confirmed, and past rumors have suggested villains like the Lizard, Mysterio, and the Sin-Eater could also appear.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s storylooks to be pretty packed already, and now there are hints that the action could spill into Marvel’s dimension-spanning multiverse as well. CBRrecently gained exclusive access to the upcomingMarvel LegendsMarvel’s Spider-Man 2Miles Morales figure, which is set to hit stores this spring. The character bio on the back of the toy’s packaging describes Miles as the newest Spider-Man who “discovers allies and enemies across the multiverse - and at home in New York.”
This text implies thatMarvel’s Spider-Man 2could explore the Multiverse, or at least make a reference to Miles’s various travels across it. Indeed, the younger Spider-Man is no stranger to parallel realities, as his comic book incarnation was originally from Marvel’s Ultimate universe before crossing over into the mainline Earth-616. Miles’s recent big-screen adventures have also seen him transverse different dimensions and meet up with alternate versions of Spider-Man in 2018’sSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verseand this summer’sSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Of course, the text from Miles’s newest Marvel Legends toy could just be a shout-out to these extradimensional adventures, or even a hint thattheMarvel’s Spider-Manversion of Milescould make a cameo inAcross the Spider-Versejust like Peter does in the film’s latest trailer. On the other hand, it could mean that the Multiverse will be referenced inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2in some capacity, possibly opening the door for nods and crossovers with other Marvel-branded games likeMarvel’s Midnight Suns. In any case, if the Multiverse does appear inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2it likely wouldn’t be as part of the game’s main plot, given that Peter and Miles will already have their wall-crawling hands full with Venom.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is scheduled to release in 2023 on PS5.
