STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobylis just one of many video game productions that are being affected by the Russian aggression on the Ukrainian people, but what puts the developer, GSC Game World, in a particularly troublesome spot is that it is based primarily in Ukraine. This is why the development of the game had been put on hold for some time now.

This may yet change in the coming weeks, however, as sources claim that GSC Game World is now moving its headquarters to a neighboring country to try and continue working onSTALKER 2. Reports on this information come from Czech gaming website Vortex, as well as a prominent Czech gaming journalist, Pavel Dobrovsky.

Even thoughdevelopment ofSTALKER 2was put on holduntil “after Ukrainian victory,” sources now claim that GSC Game World is moving its headquarters over to the Czech Republic. Reports of this taking place originally came about via Vortex, a prominent Czech gaming website, with Dobrovsky mirroring these sentiments on Twitter soon thereafter. It seems that GSC is transitioning its whole operation over to Prague or somewhere close by, and if everything goes well and all the logistics are sorted out soon, the company may resume its business in relatively short order.

Recently,GSC Game World changed theSTALKER 2subtitleto reflect the Ukrainian spelling of its location, which is why the game is now known as “Heart of Chornobyl,” rather than “Chernobyl,” which is the Russian spelling. Given the subject of the game, it’s clear that the current geopolitical situation has cornered GSC between a rock and a hard place.

GSC issued a statement about the Russian invasionin the earliest stages of the conflict, and it was already made clear that the team may need to pause its production of the game due to the obviously more pressing matters. The situation quickly escalated from that point on, and the two countries found themselves locked in all-out warfare, making video game development the least of anyone’s worries. If the Czech sources are correct, however, GSC may yet have an opportunity to continue working on its games.

While it’s impossible to tell if GSC Game World’s flagship release will be coming out anytime soon, it may be worth checking out some ofSTALKER 2’s beautiful official screenshotsto see how the production had been progressing before the war with Russia. Curiously, Dobrovsky does mention on Twitter that GSC may continue working on its Cossacks strategy game franchise once the newSTALKERgame is out, but that’s a long-term plan for the studio, at best.
