Summary

The recent trailer forThe Acolytehas prompted some fans to notice a certain casting trend when it comes to new characters in theStar Warsfranchise. It turns out another beloved sci-fi series has been lending its talent to a galaxy far, far away.

When a franchise has been running as long asStar Warswhile still managing to remain relevant, eventually it begins to bring in stars from all corners of Hollywood and beyond. Remember those stories about the scrapped NSYNC cameo inAttack of the Clones? That was only the beginning. Over the years, this eminent science fantasy juggernaut has borrowed a ton of big names from unexpected places, up to and including Jack Black and Lizzo in a rather infamousepisode ofThe Mandalorian. The fact that people often forget that Christopher Lloyd featured prominently in that same episode shows just how wild the whole thing was.

But one fan on theStar WarsCantina subredditrecently pointed out that one franchise seems to be the target for fresh talent lately. Now, whether intentional or not, it seems thatStar Warshas been grabbing rather eagerly from the actor pool of theMatrixmovies. The new trailer forThe Acolyteprominently featured Carrie-Anne Moss, well-known as Trinity fromThe Matrix. But her appearance is actually only the latest in what may be a steadily growing family ofMatrixactors making their way intoStar Wars.

“Carrie-Ann Moss as a stern, martials arts using Jedi Master is peak casting and probably the thing I’m most interested in for the Acolyte”

The original post made references to two other specific stars aside from Moss, though they’re still super excited to see her in a role that seems tailor made for her. For one, it listed Genevieve O’Reilly who is currently known for herflawless portrayal of Mon Mothma inAndor. But early in her career, she notably appeared inThe Matrix ReloadedandThe Matrix Revolutionsas Officer Wirtz. The post also included Jessica Henwick, known for her role as Peg inGlass Onionand Nymeria Sand inGame of Thrones. She appeared as pilot Jessika Pava inStar Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakensbefore eventually showing up as Bugs inThe Matrix Resurrections. That’s already enough for a trend, but it turns out these 3 aren’t the only ones.

Several users pointed out that Matt Doran, who played Mouse inThe Matrix, also showed up in a rather infamous appearance as Elan Sleazebaggano inStar Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones. That’s right, ever sinceStar Warsfans were first offered death sticks, they’ve been in The Matrix. Funnily enough, that exact same scene also features anotherMatrixreference, with actress Fiona Johnson appearing in a cameo as a reference to her role as The Lady in Red from the firstMatrixfilm. So maybe this particular trend isn’t just one big coincidence. Nothing ever is.

“Dont forget Fiona Johnson who played the lady in red

as well as making a cameo in Attack of the Clones in a shot which was a direct reference to her appearance in The Matrix

And Matt Doran as Mouse who appeared in AOTC as Elian Sleezebaggano another shot that was adirect reference to the Matrix.”

Moss' presence inThe Acolytehas been known for well over a year at this point, so it’s not like the trend only just became a trend. But now that all the pieces are that much more visible, one can’t help but wonder, who else might join up in the future? “Bring in Hugo Weaving and Lawrence Fishburne or we riot,” offered one fan. Suddenly the idea of Trinity and Morpheus battling Agent Smith with lightsabers has irreversibly lodged itself in the brains of fans everywhere. Oh, the possibilities.
