Star Wars' gaming efforts in recent years have provided mostly linear experiences that deliver experiences that while new, often feel familiar to longtime fans. TheStar Wars Jediseries from Respawn Entertainment provides a modern Jedi experience akin to the classicJedi Knightseries, andStar Wars Squadronsoffered in-depth starship combat similar toRogue Squadron. WithStar Wars Outlaws, however,Ubisoft looks to deliver an expansive, open-worldStar Warstitlethat does things no game set in the franchise has ever done. All in front of a smuggler-centered backdrop that explores the seedier sides of the galaxy.
InStar Wars Outlaws, gamers will be able to explore the galaxy with Kay Vess, an ambitious smuggler balancing her relationship withStar Wars' various crime syndicates. In true Ubisoft fashion, players will have a massive world to explore, asOutlawswill have practically seamless travel from one planet to another. The game’s initial trailers gave a very small taste of what planets can be explored, with locations from the films like Kijimi and the ever-reliable Tatooine making an appearance. IfStar Wars Outlawsreally wants to draw fans into its scoundrel adventure, however, there’s one iconic planet that can’t be forgotten.

Star Wars Outlaws Needs An Explorable Coruscant
Star Wars Outlawsis centered aroundtheStar Warsgalaxy’s crime syndicatesand scoundrels, with its many wretched hives of scum and villainy finally taking center stage in aStar Warsgame. Ubisoft has shown how the planet Akiva will play a significant role in the game’s story, but anyStar Warsgame focused on the more depraved parts of the galaxy would be nothing without Coruscant. The once shining home of the Jedi Order is well known for hiding an extensive network of criminal enterprises in its lower levels, and these lower levels are somethingStar Warsgames have rarely every explored.
Coruscant has been a fixture ofStar Warsgames over the years, withJedi: Survivorusing the planet as part of its tutorial.Star Wars Outlawscould really push the envelope, however, turning Coruscant into one of the largest and most detailed explorable environments in anyStar Warsgame. Players could have Kay Vess explore any number of bars and back alleys in search of a new score, avoiding the watchful eye oftheStar WarsEmpirealong the way. Not to mention the visual potential of a fully-explorable Coruscant, as it’s neon-drenched lower levels could make for one of the most beautifulStar Warsgames yet.
For many longtimeStar Warsfans, an explorable Coruscant inOutlawswould also be a much-needed form of relief.Star Wars Outlawsisn’t the first time a game has promised to explore this side of the galaxy, asStar Wars 1313once promised the same thing. Unfortunately, the project was canceled due to Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm, and fans were left to wonder what could have been after1313’s impressive gameplay reveal.Outlawshas an opportunity to make up for what was lost by that cancelation, by delivering the explorable Coruscant many thought they would get so many years ago.
Star Wars Outlawshas a lot of expectations in front of it, as it’s the firstStar Warsgame releasing after EA’s exclusivity deal. Ubisoft has already shown off some high-speedStar Wars Outlawsgameplay, and there’s sure to be more revealed about the game ahead of its 2024 release. While there’s no telling what Ubisoft will be willing to show in the meantime, fans can only hope that Coruscant will make an appearance at some point. As a fixture of theStar Warsfranchise and an untapped mine of potential, the planet could usher in a new era of explorable environments forStar Warsgames as a whole.
Star Wars Outlawsis expected to release in 2024 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
