Summary

Stardew Valleycreator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone shared a mysterious teaser that appears to be hinting at the 1.6 version of the game. The newly surfaced image adds to the list ofthings that fans can expect from theStardew Valleyupdate 1.6.

Thelast major update forStardew Valleylaunched in December 2020, bumping the game’s version number up to 1.5. As is tradition with ConcernedApe’s releases, that package was filled to the brim with content, on top of introducing some new features like local split-screen multiplayer. The 1.6 patch promises much of the same, although its scope is said to be somewhat smaller than its predecessor’s.

For the first time since July, ConcernedApe has now taken online to offer anotherglimpse at theStardew Valleyupdate 1.6. The newly shared teaser depicts a parrot on a stand bearing the insignia of the Joja Corporation. The bird also appears to be requesting gold coins, the game’s primary currency, while its surroundings reveal it to be located on Ginger Island, which was originally added to the game as part of the 1.5 update. Since the current version of that location features no such feathered creature, it stands to reason that this Joja parrot will be arriving at Ginger Island with the release of the next major version of the hit farming sim.

The fact that the newly revealed bird is asking for gold pieces could also be a significant hint pointing to the contents of the 1.6 update. Namely, the primary currency ofStardew Valleydoesn’t hold much value on Ginger Island as of right now. Instead, the location’s entire progression arc is tied to Golden Walnuts, of which there are 130 to be found and exchanged for various rewards. This gold-hungry parrot could hence hint at an alternate route for obtaining those unlockables, perhaps one that’s reserved forStardew Valleyplayers who side with the Joja Corporationat the Community Center’s expense.

It’s also possible that the image is teasing a more straightforward expansion for Ginger Island meant to simply add to its pile of content instead of providing an alternative way of procuring its existing rewards. Such an addition would be fairly on-brand for ConcernedApe, who’s been putting out massive free updates for his hit game since 2016.

And while it remains to be seen what this newly shared teaser is referencing, there is no doubt that the 1.6 version ofStardew Valleywill also expand on many other parts of the game beyond Ginger Island; ConcernedApe previously mentioned new items, festivals, and dialogues as just some of the additions set to arrive with the incoming update, though he is yet to commit to a specific time frame for its release.

Stardew Valleyis available now on Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
