Gamers discover that searching for the Steam store on Google turns up an offensive message for Epic Games as the first result. Epic Gamescreated its Epic Games Storeas a response to Steam and the large revenue cuts that Steam takes from game sales and the two sites have been locked in a battle since.

A report by PCGamesN reveals that when searching for the term “Steam store” on Google earlier today, searchers would have seen the message “F–K EPIC GAMES STORE” in the site description. Google typically crawls a site to load this data, which suggested that the message had been written by someone onSteam. Some wondered if it had been created by an angry Steam engineer who doesn’t like Epic Games' practices.

However, it seems that it was from an angry gamer who had left a review and not someone who works on Steam. VG247 did some digging and found text that matched the description in a user’sreview forMetro Exodus. Many were upset whenMetro Exoduswas an Epic Games Store exclusive and it seems that now that the game is available on Steam, this player is using the review section to show just how upset they are. The Epic Games message has stopped showing up in Steam’s description on Google and it now shows the description for a Japanese horror game calledThe Convenience Store.

It’s not surprising why fans thought that the Epic Games Store message wasn’t a mistake. While it hasn’t used such strong language itself, it did callMetro ExodusEpic Games Store exclusivity"unfair" which is about the most pleasant way of voicing anger as a company could get.

Epic Games has also managed to get some incredibly popular games as exclusive. Ubisoft has chosen to put many of itsnew games on Epic Games Storebut not on Steam andBorderlands 3also has an Epic Games Store exclusivity deal though it will come to Steam in several months. These all have an effect on how much money Steam makes and the Google description could have been a way of getting back at Epic Games, had it been written by someone at Steam and not a fan.

This may not have been because of Steam, but the fight between Epic Games and Steam is unlikely to end here. Epic Games keeps offering free games to Epic Games Store users and moregames such asGodfallmay also be Epic Games Store exclusives.
