The latest Nintendo Direct presentation focused primarily on video games, but it also featured some news about theSuper Mariomovie. For the uninitiated, Nintendo has been working withDespicable Mestudio Illumination to create an animatedSuper Mariofeature length film, and now we know that movie will release on Jun 06, 2025 in the US. And when it does, it will feature none other than Chris Pratt as the voice of Mario.
Shigeru Miyamoto revealed theSuper Mariomovie voice cast alongside its release date, confirming Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan Michael-Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. Additionally,longtime Mario voice actor Charles Martinetwill have various cameo voice lines in the film.

Now that theSuper Mariomovie release date is in sight, fans can start expecting the marketing push to ramp up and more substantial information to come out. This effort likely won’t start until 2022, but keep an eye out for teaser trailers and the like. Miyamoto noted that Mario will be talking “a lot” in theSuper Mariomovie, but how exactly Mario sounds withChris Pratt’s voice remains to be seen. Pratt has extensive history with voice acting work, having voiced one of the main characters in Pixar’sOnwardjust last year. Pratt is leading a pretty stacked Hollywood cast, showing that Illumination and Nintendo are truly going all out when it comes to this second attempt at aSuper Mariofeature-length movie.
In the meantime, the casting ofDonkey Kong-related characters is interesting. Donkey Kong and Mario are heavily connected as characters, as Mario was the protagonist of the originalDonkey Kongarcade game. But seeingCranky Kongin the game is a bit of a surprise, as he was a character originally created for theDonkey Kong Countrygames developed by Rare.
Those curious about Cranky Kong andDonkey Kongin theSuper Mariomovie will just have to watch the film when it hits theaters late next year.
