Slime Rancher 2offers a unique experience compared to the first game. While there are still many features and slimes that have yet to return from the first game from Monimi Park,Slime Rancher 2still offers many improvementsthat make ranching and adventuring just as enjoyableas the previous game.
7Free-Range Slimes
Slime Rancher 2 offers some unique flexibilities for all ranching needs in the Conservatory. Improving on the initial ranch size from Slime Rancher, the Conservatory inSlime Rancher 2comes with multiple areas with lots of free space to organize slimes. Players can use The Den area to contain Slimes that have sensitivity to sunlight, such as Phosphor, Ringtail, and Batty Slimes. Whenraising Batty Slimes, it can be important to find a dark location for them to enjoy, since they can get irritable quickly when in the sun.
Items such as the Portable Scareslime, Fruit Slime Bait, Meat Slime Bait, and Veggie Slime Bait allow players to keep their slimes in check, even without a corral. While bait has been a ready tool for players to use since the first Slime Rancher game, the more spacious areas inSlime Rancher 2allow for more effective use of these tools. If players plan onhunting down and free ranching largos, be careful. One stray plort, and the entire farm may end up turning into Tarr.
6Decorate The Ranch
While decorating the Ranch isn’t an entirely new feature, it got a major update inSlime Rancher 2. Using resources players gathered from the surrounding islands, they can upgrade the look of the Ranch by putting up trees, roots, stones, pillars, grass, and even magma pools wherever they see fit. With enough decoration, a Ranch can take on a whole new style depending on what aesthetic players aim to create.
This customization is just another one of the goals that players can set for themselves while they explore the new areas open to them inSlime Rancher 2. For example, there are multiple decorations that surround the themes of various islands, such as Sponge Trees from the Fry Reef, volcanic ash from Ember Valley, and palm trees from the coasts where Angler Slimes make their home.
5Maximize Chickens
One notable improvement inSlime Rancher 2is the rate of chicken production that players can generate on the Ranch via coops.Slime Rancher 2, unlike its predecessor, doesn’t place a limit on how many chickens players can have in one coop. Chicken coops inSlime Rancher 2offer the same features from the first game, like high walls for containment, spring grass for maximized egg production, and vitamizers for improved growth.

In the first Slime Rancher game, players needed to work closely with Miles Mochi to unlock the best feature of the chicken coop: the Deluxe Upgrade. This upgrade allows players to not only double chicken production on top of all other improvements but also sort chickens, sending Elder Hens and Elder Roostros to an isolated compartment. Be careful though, players that ignore their chicken coops for too long may end up with more feathery friends than they know what to do with.
4Build Gadgets Outside The Ranch
While building portals and links outside the Ranch is no new feature, the kinds of gadgets players can create have improved since the first game. Portals are more precise, allowing different corresponding portals for specific locations. With portals directly to Ember Valley or the Starlight Strand, players can strategize their adventuring to collect specific resources for Slime Science or prioritize different upgrades to aid in their adventuring on the Rainbow Island.
By building teleportation spots and refineries near valuable resources, players can prioritize the most out of each trip. Teleportation spots in particular can help make longer trips a breeze, letting players deposit plorts, slimes, and other important items in preparation for their next adventure.
3Upgrade Exploration Gear
Upgrading exploration gear can help players explore the Rainbow Islands more effectively withSlime Rancher 2’s more powerful Jetpack.Slime Rancher 2offers an entirely new and large map for Ranchers to explore, offering more opportunities for the adventurous when players upgrade both the Power Core and Jetpack.

Withouta fully upgraded Jetpackand Vac tank, some areas across the Rainbow Island may be too hard to reach. For example, in Ember Valley, there is an entire section near the edge of the island that’s only accessible if players have a fully upgraded Jetpack. Reaching this area of the island gives players a birds-eye view, along with fresh places to put portals or refinery links. Throughout the Rainbow Island, players can uncover secrets such as cosmetic upgrades, new tools, and Slime tech that can help improve the Ranch over time.
2Collect Slime Toys
There are many Slime Toys players can gather to give to Slimes inSlime Rancher 2. Ranchers can choose to buy these toys from the shop inSlime Rancher 2but can find many naturally by exploring different areas of Rainbow Island. Giving toys for the slimes to play with on the Ranch helps calm them down, making them less wiggly and easier to manage in the Conservatory. Specific toys work more effectively to entertain different slimes, so keep a lookout for any toys on the map to improve a Slime’s enclosure.

1Improve Rancher Efficiency
One ofSlime Rancher 2’s most notable improvements is resource hunting. Instead of using gadgets to gather resources,Slime Rancher 2allows players to gather resources directly using the Resource Harvester. By harvestingresources like Radiant Oreas often as possible, players can gather the materials necessary to build even more helpful tools on their adventure through Slime Science. Wild Honey is another resource that can help Ranchers navigate and manage their Conservatory. Taming Bells, Spring Pads, and Fruit Slime Baits allrequire players to gather Wild Honeyfrom various locations around the Rainbow Island.
Upgrades to the Vacpackthat can help Ranchers be more efficient and careful on their ventures outside the Conservatory include the Tank Guards and Extra Tank upgrades. The Tank Guard allows players to keep a certain amount of items in their Vac Tank, even if they get knocked out while exploring. Having an Extra Tank on the Vac allows players to store more items, giving them more space for special resources, slimes, or plorts that they collect while on the Rainbow Island.
