Summary

Dead by Daylight’s recent Lights Out event should serve as a standard-bearer for what players can expect from future events. Events are nothing new forDead by Daylight, with the game’s calendar featuring several that occur every year. However, Lights Out was a different kind of event, showing thatDead by Daylightis capable of more than previously thought. Now there are far more possibilities for what future events can bring to the game. Lights Out is still a recent memory forDead by Daylight, but hopefully its influence will have a reverberating effect in the future.

Even thoughDead by Daylight’s many crossoversare arguably the main source of its fame, the game’s events have provided a lot of diverse content. Every year, events like Halloween, Lunar New Year, andDead by Daylight’s own anniversary show up in-game with their own array of bonuses. In most cases, these events bring new cosmetics as well as an event tome to help players work their way through the rift. These annual celebrations are a fun tradition forDead by Daylightplayers. One of the latest events, Lights Out, was not an annual celebration, but it brought its own brand of fun.

The titularLights Out mode inDead by Daylightwas the main focus of the Lights Out event, and it was a major shift for the game. Lights Out was a modified version of the game with no perks or items and a significantly darkened map. While not an entirely new game mode since the basic goals of the match are still the same, it’s still the most notable way that Behaviour has shaken up the formula.

Lights Out could act as a springboard for Behaviour to start getting more experimental when it comes to designing trial modifications for later events.

There is a world of other modifications to make, such as makingDead by Daylight’s glyphsthe focus of a trial instead of generators. Past events have already added new temporary mechanics such as Bone Chill’s snowmen that add their own flavor to the game, After Lights Out, where the event gimmick dominated the trials, Behavior could reach even further with the next modified game mode. Trials could have different goals, or even change some of the basic rules. This could be the springboard forDead by Daylight’s events to start spawning full game modes in their own right.

A big reason to start making more innovative events and game modes is longevity. Players will spend plenty of timelooping inDead by Daylightduring trials, and while it is exciting, adding new challenges can help the game stay fresh. Adding more gameplay modes and modifications will give players new goals to aim for and strategies to work with, especially if they significantly shake up the game in comparison to the base trials. Of course, it remains to be seen exactly how much flexibilityDead by Daylighthas. Even so, the developer has already shown a fair amount of potential for future gimmicks.

Lights Out could be an omen forDead by Daylight’s future in terms of alternate trials. Embracing this idea could lead to morefun builds inDead by Daylightto account for different modes or goals, as well as a decent break for players who want to try something different. Having more events that bring their own game modes could prove to be incredibly healthy forDead by Daylightin the long run.
