Twitchhas changed its community guidelines many times since its first appearance on the internet. As a streaming platform,Twitchis host to all sorts of live content ranging from video games, music, art, and myriad other topics in between, making it a sort of internet livestream melting pot.

Following community guidelines is integral to the survival of any channel on the platform, as violating them typically has escalating levels of consequence. For repeat offenders, punishments tend to continuously grow as a deterrent for poor behavior. However, in cases likeJiDion’s permanent ban from Twitch, sometimes all it takes is a single over-the-top offense for a channel to be forcibly removed.

However, some streamers believe the site tends to handle their own guidelines poorly and sometimes seemingly at random. For example, in the case ofMeowko’s ban from Twitch on her birthday, Twitch banned her for wearing what was deemed inappropriate attire while cooking as well as using an augmented reality avatar that wore indecent attire. While this was certainly a strange situation, recently another situation arose in which TheDanDangler was banned once again for inappropriate attire after receiving a ban for the same reason in February.

TheDanDangler is a streamer known forCall of Dutycontent as well as hot tub streams. Her ban was handed to her over one of these hot tub streams in which she was wearing a bikini and lounging in water. While Twitch’s guidelines are quite strict about certain activities and certain clothing, hot tub streams are known for bikini attire due to the environment and have become a part of Twitch; much likeCorrina Kopf’s Twitch ban after a hiatus, it really makes no sense that TheDanDangler would be banned for inappropriate attire considering it is the normal attire for that type of stream.

Naturally, the ban angered TheDanDangler, who took to Twitter to air her frustrations. In her tweets, she revealed the reason behind her ban as well as asking whether Twitch was trying to kill itself; this response was due to the fact that Twitch has been known for handing out tons of bans to hot tub streamers for inappropriate attire even though bikinis are perfectly normal for pool activities. Furthermore, she went on to point out more popular streamers like Amouranth rarely, if ever, get banned for the same reason, even though they wear similar if not even more revealing clothing.

Considering ridiculous reasons for banning in the past like thebanning ofMaddenplayers on Twitch during the Superbowl, it is safe to say that the site may need to look into reforming its policies or practices. Until then,Twitchstreamers, especially hot tub streamers, can expect more frustrating bans for questionable reasons.
