Despite this, most streamers should be aware of who is watching them, and when they are prominent people in either their community or profession, the heat for good behavior is on even more. WhileCall of Duty’scommunity is known for trash talkingand occasionally toxic behavior, it is always surprising to some fans when a well-known “good boy” takes part in the trash-talking tactics of the community.
Stephen Thompson’s Twitch
Stephen Thompson, also known as Wonderboy, is an MMA fighter and the #4 Welterweight in the UFC. He spends time streaming various games onTwitch, includingCall of Duty.When he is not playing games or fighting, he teaches karate to kids at his family’s karate school. This makes him an influential person at a local level, as well as a famous MMA fighter in the UFC.
While he does list several rules on his channel, fans were surprised when he broke a rule accidentally. Recently, Wonderboy has beenstreamingCall of Duty: Modern Warfareand enjoying the game with his community and friends. Like most streamers, he answers questions that the chat asks and made an unexpected claim that has caused many to look at him in a different way.
His reputation has already been brought into question multiple times throughout his history by members of the UFC community. While many know him as the “good boy” of the UFC, videos of him hitting kids with dodgeballs and other accusations marred his reputation for some. Despite this, many people love Wonderboy claiming that he is relatable, likable, and great with kids.
The Incident
In a conversation on Twitch during hisCall of Duty: Modern Warfarestream, he shared an incident where he had trash-talked a kid. In general, Wonderboy tends to keep his trash-talking to a minimum and is known to be polite to most people. Yet, in his stream, he claims that his competitive attitude comes in when he is gaming. He shares that he doesn’t tell his students he even has a Twitch as he doesn’t want them to see him rage when he gets in a competitive mindset.
He did have an incident where one kid approached him due to watching his stream. Thekid’s parents playCall of Dutyall the time, and he wanted to see his teacher in action. Approaching him, the kid tells him, “Mr. Stevens, you were saying some bad words.” While telling this story, he says that he “was like shut the f**k up kid.” Quickly, he drew back the statement by claiming it was a joke, though not before a viewer clipped it, and it quickly spread across his community.

Public Perception of Trash Talking
In the UFC, Stephen is known for being one of the nice guys in the ring. Ariel Helwani gave him the title “Nicest Mother F****r” or NMF back in December of 2019, which is a play on ‘Gamebred’ Mascival’s BMF title. His reputation for being both hot and cold in recent fights, along with hiscompetitive nature, has manyCall of Duty: Modern Warfarefans interested in his streams.
While he may have been joking, many are both concerned over the comment and celebrating his loose nature. In general, the UFC fighter is more uptight and careful about his actions and words, and some fans appreciate seeing a more relaxed version of him despite his comment on Twitch.Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis a competitive game, and occasionally players can get more aggressive due to the need for winning.
On the other side, fans in the comments share their shock at hearing the “nice guy” say any curse word, especially in the direction of a kid whether it was a joke or not.Call of Duty: Modern Warfaremay bring out a different sidein the UFC fighter, and community reception of this is mixed.
Future Twitch Incidents
Despite the possible controversy over this, many fans are taking the comment in good light. While they are surprised at the language from the UFC fighter, many find it humorous rather than offensive and believe that it is just a joke. For many, hearing the curse word was surprising but could be seen as just the language of a casual player inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare.
There is a wide and interestingcommunity of players inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare,and Wonderboy is not the first to say something possibly offensive on stream. More prominent people continue to enjoy the streaming environment of Twitch, and as time goes on, fans may get to see a more casual representation of their favorite gaming celebrities. T-Pain, Snoop Dogg, Mike Shinoda, and many others enjoy Twitch and stream a variety of interesting and engaging content.
While there is a toxic culture within the game, many fans recognize that these icons of MMA, pop culture, and other places are human. This means that they are also driven by competition, rage, and the occasional slip of the tongue. Wonderboy has since then drawn back the comment, and many are sure that he never said anything wrong directly to a child under his care. Still, it is not horribly surprising for an MMA fighter to ever so often say a foul word, at this basic level, even if they are the “Wonderboy” of the UFC.
