Summary
Pokemon Scarlet and Violethave been enjoying new content for a while now, with the release of The Teal Mask DLC in September, and three months later with The Indigo Disk capping off the expansion pack called The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. This could seem like the end of the road for Gen 9 games, but a recent announcement revealed that there is at least another content drop forPokemon Scarlet and Violetcoming early next year. With the games now being over one year old and The Pokemon Company likely having some more aces up its sleeve for Pokemon Day in February 2024, there are still a few things players can expect for Gen 9 before the developers move on entirely.
It’s worth noting that while a new release for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has been confirmed for January 2024, anything else is still up in the air and can only be inferred based on past patterns and release schedules.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Epilogue, Mythical, and New Content
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s new Mythicalhas yet to debut in the game, but virtually every piece of information about it had been datamined before launch, including the fact that it would come with a special epilogue. Now, The Pokemon Company announced just this week that there will indeed be an epilogue for Gen 9 games, and it already has a release date. It’s also likely that the epilogue will add the remaining three unlockable coaches in the League Club Room in The Indigo Disk.
Set to launch on January 11,Pokemon Scarlet and Violetwill finally wrap the overarching story told through Area Zero, Kitakami, and more recently the Blueberry Academy. This epilogue will involve old characters too, such as Arven, Penny, and Nemona, and it will be set in the land of Kitakami. In fact, well before the datamines for The Indigo Disk revealed that the Mythical would be distributed through an in-game event, leaks surfaced about anew Indigo Disk Pokemonthat is tied to the Loyal Three from The Teal Mask, and that it would resemble a peach and even shares part of its name.
Ongoing Support For Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
While theJanuary 11 epilogue forPokemon Scarlet and Violetis likely a conclusion of the entire Gen 9 story, there has been no official confirmation of whether there will be more DLCs or content drops for the games. Based on the two-DLC approach used inPokemon Sword and Shield, and considering that the next release forPokemon Scarlet and Violetis officially labeled as an epilogue, it seems unlikely that more is about to come. However, what is almost guaranteed is that Gen 9 will keep on having new events, giveaways, Tera Raid bosses, and the likes for at least another year or two, regardless of new possible expansions.
A great way to keep supporting Gen 9 games would be to have either a distribution event or a Tera Raid event for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet where players can catch the new version-exclusive Paradox Pokemon: Gouging Fire, Raging Bolt, Iron Crown, and Iron Boulder.
Why Pokemon Gen 9 Could Get a Nintendo Switch 2 Port
Another possible outcome is that theheavily rumored Nintendo Switch 2(assuming it is indeed a direct follow-up to the Switch) will be released later in 2024, and that Gen 9 games get something out of it. It was rumored and then allegedly datamined that most of the creatures inPokemon Scarlet and Violetwere meant to have improved 3D models with a Switch successor, so maybe if the console shows up next year,Pokemonfans will also get a port of sorts of Gen 9 games. This could also help with the games' suboptimal performance rendition and improve the overall experience.
New VGC Rulesets and Regulations for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Another form of continued support forPokemon Scarlet and Violetwill come with the new Regulation F, and then likely even more in the near future, especially with thePokemon World Championships scheduled for 2024.PokemonVGC tournaments have been big for Gen 9 games, and it feels only natural that players will get to use more and more of the returning Pokemon as the generation comes to a close.
