Xbox Game Pass reveals the winners of its first Xbox Game Pass Awards which allowed fans to vote on a series of silly categories. The awards are the total opposite ofThe Game Awards 2019and the nominees weren’t all released in 2019, but thousands of gamers voted to let their opinion be known.
There were four categories in the Xbox Game Pass Awards 2019 and all of them are ridiculous. In the “Best Out of Context Dialogue,” the nominees were Geralt fromThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Nico fromDevil May Cry 5, Ratbag fromMiddle-earth: Shadow of War, and Torgue fromBorderlands: The Handsome Collection. Geralt got 3425 votes (42) with “you’re beautiful at this funeral” which is a great line but a few people probably voted for it just because they arehuge fans of Geralt.

The Witcher 3: Wild Huntalso won the award for “Best Inanimate Object”. The nominees were a nice hat fromThe Outer Worlds, a frying pan fromMy Friend Pedro, Keegan’s mustache inGears 5, and the unicorn fromThe Witcher 3: Wild Huntwhich won with 3612 votes (42%). The goose fromUntitled Goose Gamewon the Xbox Game Pass award for “Best Game Where You Control Something Seemingly Uninteresting But Ended Up Being Extremely Fun!” getting 4,574 votes (67%). The developers have confirmed thatUntitled Goose Gamehas sold one million copies so it’s not surprising to see it win here.
Obsidian Entertainment also won an award. Parvati Holcomb fromThe Outer Worldswon theXbox Game Passaward for “NPC of the Year” getting 4798 votes (50%). The other nominees were Pedro fromMy Friend Pedro, Napstablook fromUndertale, and Okosan fromHatoful Boyfriend.
The categories and the awards are just a bit of fun, so much so that the Xbox Game Pass Twitter account didn’t officially “reveal” the winners. The Xbox Game Pass social team was on holiday, so with a scheduled tweet, the account told fans to “go check the polls lol”. However, it seems to have added to the humor of the awards and it is giving Xbox Game Pass users another reason to go and look through the library and see which of the nominees they haven’t played.
If the team decides to bring back the Xbox Game Pass Awards for 2020, fans could have a much more difficult time voting. Today,Grand Theft Auto 5was added to Xbox Game Passfor consoles and as it’s one of the most popular games to be released, it could potentially get thousands more votes than any other nominees.
