The release ofThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomis nearing, and the lack of official information has only increased the anticipation for the upcoming game. Trailers have revealed that Link will have a few new tools at his disposal, as well as a vehicle that may be customizable. Though it is not yet known whetherThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomwill feature new enemies, trailers have shown that old foes may look and behave in new ways. Interestingly, players see an enemy camp atop a Stone Talus, which could lead to some interesting new combat scenarios.

The Stone Talusisn’t the only enemy big enough to carry an entire camp or support one. This means that there could be other large monsters that interact with enemy camps inTears of the Kingdom. This includes the Molduga and the Hinox.

The Stone Talus in the Tears of the Kingdom Trailer

During the E3 2021, gamers got a trailer revealing a bit more about Nintendo’s upcoming game, though it had yet to be given a title. Link is shown descending from the sky, hinting that much of the game may take place in the clouds. Anenemy camp of Bokoblinsis also seen, and it is interesting for a few reasons. Firstly, Bokoblins seem to have longer horns this time around. Secondly, the enemy camp is revealed to lie atop a Stone Talus.

This is a creative way of making enemy camps more interesting, asBreath of the Wild’s enemy camps get repetitive at times. It also presents new challenges for players without the need to introduce new types of enemies. Players know that they have to be on the lookout for a potential enemy camp atop a Stone Talus, but this may not be the only trickTears of the Kingdomhas up its sleeves.

Other Large Foes Could Also Serve as Support For Enemy Camps

Other large monsters could support enemy camps. This includes the Hinox, which looks like a cyclops and loves sleeping. Though a Hinox likely wouldn’t carry an enemy camp, it could serve as a very tough bodyguard to get through. There are also theMoldugas, which are found in the sandy lands of the Gerudo Desert. It is a tricky mini-boss to take down, as it is capable of digging underground. A Molduga with an enemy camp on it could cause real problems for Link.

ThoughBreath of the Wildwas praised for its open-world that realistically reacts to the actions of players, one of the common criticisms is thatBreath of the Wildlacked sufficient enemy variety. Although introducing new enemy types inTears of the Kingdomwould be nice, this is not the only way that the criticism can be addressed. Combining old enemy types in new ways can also inject some novelty, and placing enemy camps onto larger enemies is one way to do this.

DespiteTears of the Kingdom’s approaching release date, there are still several questions surrounding the upcoming game. Trailers seem to imply thatLink’s new arm may replace the Sheikah Slate, and it appears that the Master Sword has been terribly damaged. It is for the best thatTears of the Kingdomkeeps its biggest secrets close to its chest, including what enemies players may encounter, as this will allow for the game’s surprises to have the most impact.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomis scheduled to release on May 12 on Nintendo Switch.
